About the Podcast

Mexica: A History Podcast was created with a single commitment — finding the most likely truth and telling it in vivid detail, putting the listener in the place and time of the Conquest. One of history’s most dramatic and misunderstood stories, the fall of the Mexica empire deserves more than myth. Deeply sourced across indigenous, Catholic, and archaeological documents and sites, Mexica strives to get as close to the truth as possible — and to make that truth come alive.

Mexica takes one deliberate liberty — the mythical and spiritual beliefs of both the Mexica and the Spanish are allowed to operate as they did for the people who held them. When a priest saw the hand of God, or a warrior read an omen, that experience is treated as real within the world of the story. There is an effort to point out when a perspective or event is shaded by faith.
